How Many Canadian Geese Migrate Through Horicon Marsh?
We often get asked, "When is the best time to visit Horicon Marsh?" While there really is no bad time to see Horicon Marsh, these upcoming fall months are a particularly good time to visit. Each September and October, the marsh sees thousands of ducks and Canadian Geese migrating through its waterways, making their way south for the winter. To some birdwatchers, the name Horicon Marsh has become synonymous with the annual fall migration of Canadian Geese. The world's largest flock of these incredible birds moves through the area each year, with their peak numbers reaching over 200,000. Canadian Geese start their migration around mid-September, but they usually reach peak numbers sometime around mid-October.
Beyond enjoying the migration of the Canadian Geese and other waterfowl, you'll also enjoy seeing an incredible range of marsh birds, and even songbirds hiding in the trees during the fall migration.
